I'm A Film Shooter....But Digital Is Still A Part Of My Life.
Phew...there I said it. Late last year I began my conversion into shooting all film. I was so tired of trying to create the look I wanted out of my digital files, but never reaching it. There were an insane amount of tiny adjustments here, a little adjustment there...I never could get something that made me feel the way I did when I received my film scans back from my lab.
Enter Kirk Mastin.
Kirk Mastin is a Seattle wedding photographer who was also tired of not being able to match his digital files with his film scans. So, he did something about it. Kirk set off to create color presets that would take "film presets" into a new dimension. Kirk created a company called Mastin Labs. You can visit the link provided to check out his newly released Portra 800 and Portra 160 presets. If you are a hybrid shooter, or even a digital shooter that wants to shoot film, but just can't afford to yet. I urge you to try these presets. The process of shooting still will never match how you shoot with film, but the post processing has gotten pretty darn close.
Currently the presets that are available are.
- Portra 160
- Portra 400
- Portra 800
These are all available in both Nikon and Canon camera profiles.
I have heard rumor that more presets will be delivered in the coming months. Fuji 400h...Tri-x 400...Oh I can't wait!
If you order before March 7th you can get the entire package for a STEAL at $69. After March 7th the price will go to $119.
